Mixed Emotions

It is with a mixture of sadness and excitement that I have accepted a new role as Principal of Victory Lutheran College, beginning in 2025. While this new opportunity brings a sense of anticipation for the journey ahead, it is also incredibly hard to say goodbye to a school community that has meant so much to me.

St John's is a truly special place. The fantastic parent community, the amazing students and the strong bond we share as a staff team are things I hold dearly. I feel blessed to have been a part of this incredible journey with you.

Please know that I am 100% committed to St John's for the remainder of 2024. There is still much work to be done, and I am fully dedicated to our vibrant school community in the months ahead.

Thank you for your support and partnership. I look forward to making the most of the rest of this year with all of you.

Holiday Break
The work hard/play hard motto comes into action as the term break arrives. It is an important time for both students and staff to have a change of pace and reenergise. From all of the St John’s staff team, we pray for a fun and safe term break, and we look forward to seeing you all back in Term 4.

Psalm 121:7-8: "The Lord will keep you from all harm— He will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore."

School Concert THANK YOU

Thank you to Mrs Aiyana Eames and Chaplain Peter Reed for planning and preparing our concert items this year. Thank you to Mrs Kath Dunlop for coordinating our concert admin and setting up the hall with Mrs Narelle Hayes. The concert was a wonderful celebration of community spirit and student participation in the creative arts, with so many members of our school community going above and beyond to make it possible.

Community Fun Day

This Friday is our last day of Term 3 and Community Fun Day! Students will participate in an assortment of games inside and outside, dressed in their favourite sports colours. Please bring a gold coin donation, which will go towards the new shade sail at Jindera’s Playground, which so many of our students use. We love supporting our local community.

STUDENT INFORMATION
WHAT'S HAPPENING IN CLASS

KINDERGARTEN

MATHS

We have been learning about Time in Maths over the last two weeks; all about the features of a clock and reading o’clock time. The Kinders have loved using the small clocks to make times and playing ‘What’s the time Mr Wolf’!

STORYBOOKS IN INITIALIT

In our Storybook sessions, we have just read the books ‘All through the year’ and ‘Ernie dances to the didgeridoo’. Both books talk about different seasons that occur in different parts of Australia. We have been inspired by the collaging we did on our Lavington Library visit, so we got out the materials, plasticine and textas to create a scene from one of the six seasons up in Arnhem Land. There was a lot of mess, but definitely worth it!

YEAR 1

LAPTOPS

The students have been excited to dive into our digital learning tools. They've enjoyed logging in on the laptops, exploring engaging Maths games, improving their skills in Typing Club, and even beginning to write sentences. Some students have become true experts in the classroom and are now helping their classmates, fostering a wonderful environment of collaboration and peer learning!

PBL

This term in PBL, we have been investigating fibre and where it comes from. Students have mapped out how the product gets from the farm to us and the ways in which we can use that fibre. Students have looked at sheep wool, alpaca wool, cotton and bamboo. We have been busy creating different toys using wool and are beginning to learn to finger knit to create something for our friends at UPA.

YEAR 2

CONCERT

What a wonderful week of entertainment and excitement with our school concert. Thank you so much to Alexis, Tracey and Rebecca for face painting the students. They loved doing their performance and we were so proud of excellent job that they did.

MATHEMATICS

In Mathematics, students have been enjoying hands-on activities when mastering the commutative property of multiplication. Students enjoyed playing games and also we had Chloe share and teach us a great way to work out your 9 x tables.

PIZZA PARTY

Last week we celebrated our efforts in the Premier’s Reading Challenge by having a pizza party. Thank you so much Mrs T for organising this for us.

YEAR 3/4 PV

WEEK 9

Students continue to enjoy moving to Go Noodle during brain breaks. Questacon Science Circus was entertaining and educational. It was a coincidence, as the theme was our science topic for this term - Changes of State, solids, gases and liquids. During Maths, the Year 4 students were engaged counting coins. Different strategies were discussed as students applied their mathematical thinking to find totals. The Write Around the Murray workshop gave students the opportunity to meet Danny Katz and illustrator Mitch Vane of the Little Lunch series. It was a lively performance as the author enjoyed connecting with the audience to co-construct and generate ideas for new storylines.

YEAR 3/4 LK

Week 9

The students were very engaged during the recent Questacon show, learning about forces, the power of gravity and how things move. The Write Around the Murray visit to the Albury City Library was very loud, interactive and fun. The author and illustrator of the Little Lunch series engaged the students in creating a new character for the series.

The students also were wonderful performers as the Muppets for the school concert. Congratulations to them all for their fantastic item and the confidence they had to get up on stage.

Students have been working hard to complete their items for their PBL unit on promoting healthy eating in our school community. The students have come up with some very creative ways to get information about the benefits of healthy eating to the students at our school.

YEAR 5/6

week 9

What a busy end to the term we have had! The students enjoyed their Write Around the Murray Excursion with Melbourne author George Ivanoff. George led a workshop teaching the students how to plan the multiple story paths of a 'You Choose' book. We look forward to seeing how the students can transfer these new skills into their own writing. We wish all students a safe and fun holiday break!

WELLBEING and the flu season

Flu season

It's that time of year again when coughs, colds and covid are about in the community.

NSW Health advise we are currently in the moderate level of COVID-19.

For everyone to stay well this season please follow the recommendations of the NSW Government and keep your child home when sick.

BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL CARE

19/09/24 – 13/09/24

This week:

This week we went back in time with the theme…. RETRO WEEK! We had plenty of fun retro crafts planned for the week! On Monday we made some pom poms as well as crepe paper ice creams😊. On Tuesday we are made and decorated our very own cassettes with lots of fun bright colours and patterns! In the afternoon we put our creativity to the test trying to make some origami…harder than expected! 😊.  On Wednesday we made cheesy quesadillas again for second snack! It was once again a massive hit, definitely a recipe we will continue to use in the future! On Thursday, we spent a lot of the afternoon outside playing some group games and activities, soaking up the sun. Lastly, on Friday, we spent part of the afternoon outside and then headed back inside to watch a movie and eat some popcorn!

Next week:

Next week is the very last week of term!! Wow, how on earth has this term gone SO quickly!!! We decided that we are going to have a bit of fun next week, with some pancakes for breakfast on Tuesday morning, yummy rocky road for second snack on Wednesday and a CLASS PARTY on Thursday afternoon!! With all that fun planned for next week, we also have some awesome crafts. On Monday we are making paper chain jelly fish as well as monster paper bags, on Wednesday we are getting super creative with making pipe cleaner animals, on Thursday we will spend a lot of the afternoon outside playing some group games and we will finish on Friday with some outside play and a movie!! 😊😉

HEAD LICE

Currently we have an increased number of cases of head lice presenting at school. Please click here for a fact sheet of treatments and preventative measures which may be a support to families. If head lice is detected at school, home will be contacted. In line with school expectations, any child with below shoulder length hair is required to tie their hair back while at school. Please ensure if your child has longer hair it is tied back for the school day.
